Eight Mile Plains, Brisbane, Australia
Elissa attained her Bachelor of Exercise Science degree in 2017, followed by her Master of Physiotherapy degree at Griffith University in 2019. The Bachelor of Exercise Science program, spanning three years, equipped her with foundational expertise in the physical, biomedical, and psychological aspects of exercise prescription for both rehabilitation and overall health maintenance.
Her professional journey commenced in a musculoskeletal private practice, where she accumulated extensive experience working with a diverse range of clients. Her caseload included individuals with acute and chronic injuries, neurological conditions, NDIS participants, orthopaedic and post-surgical patients, paediatric clients, and those seeking to return to sport and physical activity.
Through this broad clinical experience, Elissa developed a strong passion for supporting individuals with hypermobility and complex chronic conditions. Since joining Not Just Bendy in 2022, she has worked with more than 555 clients and completed over 4,300 consultations with individuals living with Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders (HSD) and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), further establishing her expertise in this specialised area.
Elissa is committed to ensuring her clients feel heard, understood, and empowered throughout their rehabilitation journey. She adopts an encouraging, compassionate, and patient-centred approach, tailoring treatment plans to each individual’s goals, lifestyle, and functional needs. By combining evidence-based practice with a range of treatment approaches, she strives to optimise outcomes and improve quality of life for people living with hypermobility.
Elissa has a special interest in the biomechanical analysis of hypermobile movement patterns and complex presentations involving the spine and movement system. Her areas of interest include scoliosis, kyphosis, and movement disorders, with a particular focus on understanding how these conditions impact function and informing targeted, individualised rehabilitation strategies. She also enjoys supporting children and adolescents to develop confidence in movement, improve function, and achieve their individual goals.
She consistently engages in advancing her expertise in Hypermobility through ongoing personal training and mentorship under Sharon Hennessey, alongside participating in multiple courses and obtaining certifications. With some of these including:
